What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process that involves skills of caring, listening and prompting. It is a way of relating to another person, enabling that person to explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviour in order to reach a clearer self-understanding.

Counselling enables the person to cope more effectively with their life by providing help and support, enabling them to make decisions, take appropriate action, or just allowing them to express their own thoughts and feelings.

Essentially, counselling is a purposeful relationship in which one person helps another to help themselves.
